TEAM UPDATES...........
Curragh Junior Cup
Team Win Leinster Regional Final
The Junior Cup team started their campaign in fine style
by winning through the Leinster Regional Section which was held in Baltinglass
Golf Club on 28/29th June.
In the first Round morning match a walkover was given by Newbridge GC.
The afternoon Qtr Final was against Kilcoole. In the top match Tommy
Behan came from 3 down to halve his game. When they went up the 19th
Tommy hit a great approach shot to 12 feet and had two putts to gain
an unlikely win. In the second match Declan Kenny led throughout his
match and gained a 3 &2 win. Colum Kenny in his Junior Cup debut
won easily 4 &3 and Harry Goff was called in while in a tight match.
The Semi Final was played on Sunday morning against Courtown GC. Again
Tommy Behan led from the front to gain a relatively comfortable 4&2
win. In the second match Declan Kenny was down throughout the game by
two holes despite a string of pars. But in dramatic style he won 16
and 18 to level the game. On the 19th he pitched his third shot to a
foot to get a surprise point. The third game saw Stephen Houlihan fight
all the way only to lose on 17. The fourth match saw Tom McLoughlin
grind out a 2&1 victory after playing super golf to win the 15 and
17 holes. The final match saw Colum Kenny called in as he was going
up the 19th Fairway.
The Final was played against Blainroe GC who had blazed a trial through
the field to easily reach the decider. This followed a different pattern
to the Semi. Tommy Behan was unlucky to lose on the 17th after staging
a great fightback. As in the morning Declan Kenny fought back from 2
down to level on the 18th but on this occasion lost the 19th to a good
par. The third match saw Tom McLoughlin come from 2 down with 5 to play
to win 14, 15 and 17 with a birdie to go down the 18th one up. Tom got
a great par from the fairway bunker to half the 18th and so gain the
first win. Next Harry Goff playing at number 5 came through with a 4&3
victory after being 3 holes down early in the Match. All seemed lost
until Colum Kenny staged a miracle comeback. After being 4 down with
six to play he played a series of great shots to level the match on
the 17th. With both players having a par on the 18th all the attention
switched to the 19th with the Final at 2-2. Colum was very unfortunate
to only halve this hole after a massive drive. On the 20th (par3) Colum
made the greens edge and his opposition drove into the greenside lake.
After Colum chipped up to par the hole the victory was assured on the
tightest of margins.

BARTON CUP 2ND ROUND.
CURRAGH 1.5 CILL
DARA 3.5
Cill Dara inflicted another
Win against The Curragh in The Barton Cup in Early May. At Home Paddy
O Carroll and Tom Behan had one of those days that We all try to avoid
and lost on 12. Ian Stewart and Willie O Toole only got as far as the
15th and Congo and Dan Kelty had a good win on 15, So that left us having
to
Win both games away. Brian Carney and Eddie Trant were Nip and Tuck
all the
Way and only lost out on the Final hole with some excellent Golf been
Played by both sides and in the other game David Joyce and Derek Kelly
were called in while playing the 19th and there was some great Golf
Played in that game too.
John Cremin and Roy Mullen were disappointed to Lose, but in Fairness
Cill Dara are a very good side and could Retain their Title, More Luck
to them.

PROVINCIAL TOWNS 1ST ROUND.
CURRAGH 4 HIGHFIELD 5
The Curragh cannot beleive that
We could lose this one, as We won all our four games at home, But Home
advantage to Highfield was the deciding Factor as they won all five.
Eddie Trant and Derek Kelly Won on 15 and Andy Behan and
Derek McNamara Won on 17 at Home But away Dema Houlihan and David Hogan
both lost early (13) While Jamie Rothwell and Brian Molloy got Further
(16) and Paddy O Carroll lost out on the final hole where his Opponent
sunk a great Putt.
Tom Behan and Frank Archbald were very Disappointed especially as the
home performance was very impressive.

CENTRAL TOWNS. 2ND ROUND.
CURRAGH 5 NENAGH 2
The Curragh Team had a very
good second round win over a well fancied Nenagh team. The foundation
for the win was laid by an excellent away performance by Brendan Daly,
Willie O Toole and and Pat Freeman. Brendan had a very good
win over an opponent who was beaten for the first time at home in 15
years. Willie O Toole who is playing some very good golf won on the
16th despite been two down early, while Pat Freeman battled hard against
a Nenagh ''banker''and was finally beaten on the 16th. At home good
wins from Archie on the 13th, Phil Duane on the 14th and JF O Sullivan
on the 15th ensured overall victory.
Ray ''Roy'' Rogers played some very good golf but was on the wrong end
of the resultafter battling hard all the way. The Managers, Phil and
Jimmy are Pleased with the committment shown by all the panel particulary
Brian Daly,Ted Rooney and Peter Grady who have not played to date but
have given great support to the team.
Next game is to be played by June 28th against Ballinasloe
(holders
of the trophy). Actual Date of game will be posted when agreed.
Support most Welcome.

DUGGAN CUP 2ND ROUND
CURRAGH 3.5 BEECH PARK 1.5
A very good victory once again for the Curragh against
very formidable opposition. The Highlight of the win must be the excellent
victory away
by Roy Mullen and Jimmy Murphy on the 16th, Their second away victory
so far. Tony Byrne and Brendan Daly ran into a barrage of excellent
golf in Beech Park and never recovered, but have an away victory to
date and I,m sure will win again.
Mick Connors and Derek Kelly are proving to be a very strong pairing,
once again never in trouble and winning on 17. Joe Conroy and Mick Kenneally,
playing in a very close match were one up playing the last and their
opponents got into trouble, eventually conceeding the match on the fairway.
Peter Origan and John Courtney were level after 15, after been three
down at one stage and were called in on the 18th to record a half.
Next Round versus our old enemy Cill Dara on Friday 17th
June.
Tee Time 5 PM. 3 at home and two away.
Please support.
